The geroscience revolution reframes medicine’s central goal: not merely treating chronic diseases one by one, but extending the number of years people live in good health. Drawing on research involving more than 800 centenarian families, this lecture will examine how exceptional longevity reveals genetic and biological pathways that slow aging—and how insights from these pathways have already helped lead to FDA-approved therapies. It will explore the remarkable compression of morbidity observed in many long-lived individuals, define gerotherapeutics, and highlight FDA-approved drugs that may be candidates for repurposing today. Finally, it will explain biological age, the emerging tools used to measure it, and the scientific, clinical, and regulatory advances needed to make biological-age assessment a practical part of medicine.
